Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
